Garden Route Trail


Duration: 5 day(s) - Location: Wilderness, Garden Route, South Africa
This fully guided five day hiking trail offers inclusive catering and accommodation, traverses the wilderness National Park, Goukamma Nature Reserve and passes through Milkwood forest. Afro-Montane forest, Dune fynbos and secluded beach areas. There are two canoeing stages and you will walk over parts of South Africa's highest vegetated fossilized dune.
Itinerary

Day 1 start from Ebb and flow, after a route briefing, canoe instruction and the canoe upriver, walk to a cascading waterfall where you have lunch, walk back to canoes and spend time on the serpentine river bird watching. Stay at Ebb and flow chalets.

Day 2 This day is a beach hike from Wilderness to Sedgefield crossing Kingfisher Creek. Finish is at Myoli (Beautiful in Xhosa) Beach where you spend the night

Day 3 This day includes 9 km on the beach with the sun on your back before cutting into the dunes. see the Milkwood forest and dune fynbos before crossing the Goukamma river by hand drawn point. Overnight in Goukamma Nature Reserve. Traditional Potjie supper

Day 4 Start the day with 3 hours birding by canoe and 6 km circular dune and beach walk. You will have some free time before your seafood dinner 

Day 5 8,5 km beach walk to Benton-on-sea with optional lunch at Nautica's. Then you get shuttled back to wilderness.



Participant guidelines

Sun hats, suntan lotions, electric torch, waterproof bag for electronic equipment. bring a permit for collecting oysters and mussels
