The safari starts and ends at the small rural village of Herbertsdale on the Garden Route in the Western Cape of South Africa. This agricultural village is situated in the Langtouw River valley, a subsidiary of the much bigger Gouritz River and the safari takes you through local farmlands, Valley Bushveld and River Veld with possible sightings of many bird- and small game species as well as farm animals. The guided safari, cuisine and experience concentrate on the local culture, fauna and flora and origins, uses and history of most of these animals. You overnight about 800 m from the Gouritz River in a Pioneer's house built in the mid 1800s by the first owner of the land.

Itinerary*: Arrive at Herbertsdale by late afternoon in time for the evening around the fire in the South African tradition. The evening is spent enjoying local cuisine and hospitality. After breakfast we saddle up and depart for a most enjoyable day in the Fauna and Flora of the area with owner and guide, animal consultant, George Smuts who knows the surroundings intricately. Descend to the Gouritz River and cross - if not in flood - and then return to Bokdrif (Goat Drift) farm where you overnight after an evening around the fire. After breakfast we follow the top of the ridges over the local farmlands and leisurely make our way back to Wesbank farm while George shares his knowledge with you.
