Wine, Chocolate and Buchu Brandy tour

Duration: 9 hour(s) - Location: Mossel Bay
Route 62 is known as the longest wine route in the world and produces a variety of very special and very popular wines. This scenic route also includes the home of South African Port wines as well as the only known cellar that produces Buchu brandy, a traditional medicinal drink famous for relieving any stomach problem.

Buchu is a wild herb, indigenous and part of Fynbosch, the most diverse plant biome on earth. In our region, there are five known varieties of this unique plant of the Erica group. For generations home brewed Buchu brandy has served as medicine in the Dutch folklore and culture and recently a local cellar started producing and bottling this unique herby brandy. Surely a collector's item for any brandy lover, it is also a unique taste that all wine drinkers should sample.

Arid and semi desert areas are known for growing grapes for sweet and dessert wines and the arid Little Karoo is no exception. The range for tasting includes Jerepico, Muscadel, Port, Rose and a variety of white and red wines.

A local producer supplies the chocolates that make the wine tasting at one of the cellars a very special occasion. Chocolate is very complimentary to wine, especially the Port and sweet wines.
