Stokkiesdraai is an Afrikaans (Dutch) word referring to gaffing of grape vines (Stokkies) that were bound together with raffia in the vineyard. The local children would do this and not attend school. The explanation to the teacher would be "Ons het stokkies gedraai" meaning we were binding stick together in the vineyard.
